The BCSP TSP Pathway — Bypassing the ASP Exam
IDRMSE’s real value shows up after graduation. The qualification is approved under the Board of Certified Safety Professionals’ (BCSP) Qualified Equivalent Program (QEP) — a list of curriculum-based diploma programs BCSP recognises as substantially matching its own Associate Safety Professional (ASP) exam blueprint.
Graduates of an approved QEP — which IDRMSE is — become eligible to apply directly for the Transitional Safety Practitioner (TSP) designation from BCSP. TSP is one of BCSP’s official credentials, and it is also one of the credentials BCSP accepts in place of the ASP exam when a candidate later applies for CSP. In practice, that means an IDRMSE graduate does not need to separately sit and pass the ASP exam — TSP status carries them straight into CSP eligibility.
From TSP to CSP — What Still Has to Be Done
TSP is a bridge, not the finish line. To actually earn the CSP designation, BCSP still requires:
- A bachelor’s degree (foreign degrees are accepted after a credential equivalency evaluation)
- A minimum of four years of Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) experience, at least half of it at a preventative/professional level
- One qualifying credential from BCSP’s accepted list — TSP satisfies this requirement
- A pass on the CSP examination itself
So IDRMSE doesn’t hand you a CSP overnight — what it does is remove the ASP exam from your path and put you on BCSP’s books as TSP-qualified, while you build the required degree and experience profile.
