What is the pass rate and difficulty level of the ASP exam?

What is the format of the ASP exam?
The ASP exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions and candidates are given 5.5 hours to complete it, covering domains such as basic safety engineering, applied engineering concepts, and safety management principles.
What happens if I fail the ASP exam? How soon can I retake it?
If you do not pass, BCSP generally requires a waiting period of about 6 weeks before you can retake the ASP exam. ISC's mentors can help you review your score report and target weak areas ahead of a retake.
How long is the ASP certification valid, and what is the recertification process?
The ASP certification is valid for 5 years, after which you must recertify by earning 25 continuing education/professional development points or by retaking the exam, keeping your credential current with evolving safety practice.
After passing ASP, how long does it typically take to progress to CSP?
There is no fixed timeline, but BCSP requires ASP holders to accumulate the necessary years of safety experience before applying for the CSP exam; many professionals reach CSP within 3 to 5 years of earning ASP, depending on their career progression and experience level.
Is there a way to skip the ASP exam entirely on my way to CSP?
Yes. BCSP's Transitional Safety Practitioner (TSP) pathway, available to holders of approved Qualified Equivalent Program (QEP) qualifications such as ISC's QUALIFI Level 6 Diploma (IDRMSE), allows you to bypass the ASP exam and move directly toward CSP. Ask ISC about our dedicated TSP BCSP program if this route interests you.
